:: Granada

We came here to visit the famed Alhambra Muslim palace, but were surprised to find an ancient city turned into a relaxed hippie haven.

Plaza Nueva

We started our walking tour in the town's main square and was greeted by a thumping Brazilian drum band.

Albaicin

Next up was to climb the narrow warren of streets of the old Arab quarter to...

Mirador San Nicolas

...get stunning views of the Alhambra palace. The square was hippie central.

Floating gypsies

These gypsy street performers set the perfect hippie stage.

Blowing hippie

We also found one playing an unidentified instrument

Calle Caldereria Nueva

The next street transported us to Morocco with its colorful market stalls (not that different from Greenhills though). Ronnie was tricked into buying Aladdin type pants here.

Kasbah

The street also had atmospheric tea shops complete with rich carpets, belly dancers and folks smoking traditional Arab tobacco pipes.

Flamenco?

It was our last night in Spain and we still had not gone to a flamenco club. We chanced upon this crowded cave club, but were wondering if there would be any actual dancing...

Ole!

...but then suddenly the guy who was just sitting quietly on the side stood up and started dancing up a storm!

Patio de la Acequia

After waking up at dawn and spending the whole morning queuing for tickets, we finally made it to the Alhambra palace. This sun-drenched courtyard pool helped make us feel it was all worth it.

Alcazaba

We climbed the old watchtower for...

Vertigo!

dizzying views of Granada.

Patio de los Leonares

The Alhambra's most famous courtyard with a total 124 marble columns where the sultan used to enjoy both his male and female harem.

Secret Garden

This is probably where the sultan's real wife would seek refuge with her own lover.

Last tapas bar

We were finally able to eat callos here. Oh how we will miss Spanish food!
