:: Seville

This is the sultry capital of the southern region of Andalucia. The whole city was in a fiesta mood with the Feria de Abril. It gave  locals an excuse to put on their most flamboyant flamenco dresses, providing a lively backdrop for exploring the fabulous city sights:

Churros

The typical sevillano street bfast, tastes just like Dulcinea's:)

Barrio Santa Cruz

The sugar rush fuelled us to wander the charming streets of this old Jewish quarter.

Colorful patios

The narrow streets opened up suddenly into sweet little patios.

Alcazar

This former Muslim palace blew us away, bringing us straight into the scenes of Arabian Nights.

Under horseshoe arches

The palace was filled with intricate plasterwork...

Lounging on ancient tiles

...and endless tiling.

Tiled inside and out

Even the park benches outside were decorated with gorgeous tiles.

Tapas bar

Spain is the best for bar food. Tapas offered cheap gourmet bites, we couldn't get enough of jamon!

Catedral de Sevilla

This is the largest Gothic building in the world and is supposed to have the remains of Columbus.

Giralda

Of course we climbed the cathedral tower...

Bird's eye view

...to get a spectacular view of Seville

Patio de los Naranjos

The church patio is a sunny spot planted with over 60 orange trees.

Feria de Abril

The fairgrounds were crowded with revelers in...

Flashy flamenco dresses

A whole family wears matching flamenco dresses

Horsemen costumes

There were riders and horsedrawn carriages parading across the fairgrounds.

Casetas

Families set up casetas or tents during the feria where a lot of dancing, drinking and eating goes on.

Ole!

This Spanish family wanted to party with what seemed like the first Asians they had ever met:)

Parque de Maria Luisa

Perfect place to get away from it all for a little peace and quiet.

Plaza de Espana

The site of the Spanish American exhibition in 1929 which explained why there were costumed American Indians playing their traditional music here.

Plaza de America

A landmark square surrounded by lush gardens
